What We're About

Looking for an enhanced & enriched school experience?
At Heartland Academy, we are not a school. We make school better!

Heartland Academy is a seasonal, farm-based enrichment program that offers the opportunity for children to
learn and grow at Heartland Farms, Community Garden!

Heartland Academy, is not open to the public, and is a private location.
We are a membership/enrollment-based Community Garden that offers various seasonal enrichment opportunities
for our members throughout the year.

What We Offer

We offer PreK-5th grade Core Academic, social and emotional, and agricultural opportunities for students to thrive in a flexible home-based environment, coupled with fully optional on-ground learning opportunities on a farm-based setting.

Flexible Learning

We offer a flexible schedule for child-centered learning + family-centered autonomy.
We know that every student learns differently; at paces and in environments that are unique to them.
At Heartland Academy, we fully embrace teaching by giving parents the flexibility to offer weekly lessons at their child’s pace, during times that work for their individual family unit.

Community Days

We offer learners the opportunity to attend Community Days, on-ground at Heartland Farms. These days are completely optional for attendance, are instructor-led and are offered Monday - Thursday weekly  from 8:30am-12:30pm that are aligned to weekly enrichment lessons.
Parents can choose for their children to attend 2 days weekly or 4 days weekly.  Offering complete flexibility and parental autonomy of every child's learning style that also works for your families lifestyle.

Curriculum

Our curriculum is comprised of Core Academic areas, Social-emotional development, as well as Agricultural, environmental, and Animal husbandry/production components.

Mission + Vision

Heartland Academy offers a homeschool-based academic foundation, coupled with optional farm-based enrichments at Heartland Farms for students PreK through 5th grade.

We strive to offer a unique educational experience for students that allows for parents to have the flexibility of offering a high-quality, home-based education, outlined by our instructors, with built in farm-based opportunities for students to have the option to attend weekly on-site at Heartland Farms.

Our on-ground Community Days offer students the opportunity to attend an instructor-led day (linked to home-based lessons) with exposure to farm life: such as gardening, and farm animal play!
Our enrichment curriculum is a multilogical approach to learning, and combines a set of diverse educational theories that include: Play-based and Student-centered learning, The Environmental Application Approach, and Personal Affirmations and Worldly Gratitude.

We believe that students learn best when they can have fun, and feel safe to discover. We encourage growth through “doing,” and proudly promote agricultural, and academic opportunities for our little learners to thrive.

Meet Our Founder.

Dr. Rashonne Saenz created Heartland Academy to offer academic + agricultural-based experiences for students that offer both the flexibility of home-based education, coupled with fully optional on-ground community opportunities.  With a passion for agriculture and farm-life, she enjoys being an advocate for farm-based enrichments where little ones can learn, play & grow in a farm-related setting. She has over 20 years of experience in the agricultural industry, and over 15 years of experience in education, ranging from PreK-12 education, to Higher Education. Dr. Saenz has national experience showing and fitting livestock & has won numerous championship titles showing South African Boer Goats. Dr. Saenz previously worked at the University of Tennessee in the College of Animal Science, was a previous Animal Science Associate Professor at San Joaquin Delta College, is a new Children’s Book author that focuses on careers in the Trade Industry, worked at UC Davis, in the College of Letters & Science as the Coordinator of Student Success & Mentorship, and is the creator & owner of Tiny Farmers Academy, a farm-enrichment program for children to experience all things ag. As a mother of three children, she understands that all children can learn if they have unique opportunities for connection. Dr. Saenz works to promote experiences that allow all children to thrive in environments that both support parental autonomy of education and childhood experiences (home-based or wherever they thrive best), and proudly promote the power of discovery available to youth in an agricultural-based environment.
